T/S Debby - Jacksonville and Northern Florida in the Proverbial Barrel for the 2nd time in a month

I keep forgetting that we're at the beginning of Hurricane Season, having already gone thru storm preparation and recovery with T/S Beryl about 4 weeks ago. So here comes T/S Debby, with similar patterns as Beryl, except that Debby is Gulf-based. Where Debby makes landfall is the unanswered question as I post this projection, with a wide area centered around Florida's Panhandle as a candidate for lots of wind and rain evolving over the next five days. (I didn't want to wish our Texan neighbors any harm, but originally I was kind of excited at the possibility of movie remakes of "Debby Does Dallas".) As with Beryl, T/S Debby is excepted to diminish in strength as it approaches and makes landfall, not quite reaching 75mph hurricane strength.

T/S Beryl - Starting the H-Season Early and Giving Jacksonville FL a Wake Up Call

Jacksonville's had a blessed and basically quiet hurricane history, much like the comfort level the Virgin Islands had up until Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Hugo complicated island life forever and gave people a reason to take storm preparation seriously in the future. Hurricane Season starts June/July, depending on who you ask, and ends in Oct/November --- that's approximately 5-6 months of every year, not to mention the occasional storm that appears late or early, as T/S Beryl is doing here. Fortunately Beryl looks to be maxing out as a Tropical Storm when it makes landfall, but sub-hurricane 70 mph winds are just that, so I hope everyone watches this one closely and doesn't throw caution to the wind.

T/S Ophelia

Ophelia, you're breaking my heart ... (to the tune of Simon & Garfunkel's song) ... my "confidence daily" says you shouldn't be much to worry about, though Saturday going into Sunday 9/24-9/25 will probably be windy in the USVI, gusting to the mid-50's based on current projections. 'Not looking a whole lot different than the track for T/S Maria did two weeks ago (post below).

We have reached that mid-September statistically bad time of year again for storms. Recalling Hurricane Hugo (Sept 21-22, 1989); Hurricane Marilyn (Sept 15-16,1995.

Sleepless on the East Coast

A weakened Category 1 Irene may be some good news for everyone bracing themselves, watching and waiting, from the Carolinas thru New York and the northeast States.

Mike Prangley's weather blog also describes a slight storm track shift to the east --- also good news.
