Earl pretty much followed the projected track except gained strength more quickly over the course of this past week. Originally projected to be only a Cat 1 as it passed the Virgin Islands, it was a Cat 3 arriving and then quickly a Cat 4 departing. This produced a wider storm with tropical storm winds 175 miles out from the center. That's not a good thing when the eye is projected to be 100 miles from the Virgin Islands, and put in an actual position that was more like only 60 miles out. Definitely a close call !
Links to real time southern East Coast and Caribbean weather information. Tracking of active hurricane and tropical depressions that could become active storms.
Earl is expected to be at CPA to the Virgin Islands on Monday at 7 p.m. --- to the north, approximately 80 miles
